Starting therapy can feel uncertain. Many people wait for the perfect time or think it must be about finding the right fit in therapy from the beginning, and before they know it, months have passed. At Real Talk, we believe no one should have to wait to be heard.
When someone reaches out to us with a preferred therapist who is unavailable, we offer a Clinical First Intake. It is a full first session where you can begin your process right away. You meet with one of our PhD-level psychologists within a week, share what has been happening in your life, and explore what kind of support feels right for you.
Sometimes you continue with that same clinician. Other times, we help you connect with another therapist or with your preferred one once their waitlist moves. When needed, we also provide referrals outside Real Talk. The point is that you do not stay stuck waiting. You leave that first session with clarity and a path forward.
Therapy works best when you start at the moment you feel ready. That sense of readiness—what we call subjective urgency—is not random. It is the mind’s way of signaling that something important needs attention now. Ignoring that signal often makes it harder to come back to later. Respecting it is an act of care toward yourself.
The first session is not about being perfectly prepared. It is about honoring that something in you is ready to begin.
If you have been thinking about reaching out, this may be the right moment. We have immediate openings for both in-person sessions in Houston and telehealth sessions across Texas.
