FAQ
Questions about therapy, scheduling, or how we work?
Doctorate-level psychologists in Houston and across Texas. Our psychologists hold doctoral degrees (PhD or PsyD) while most practices are staffed by master's-level providers. The credential difference is an important reflection of the depth and duration of training, and the scope of clinical reasoning.
A training site as well as a clinic. Real Talk operates a structured postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology. Fellows are doctoral-level clinicians who train under close supervision alongside licensed senior clinicians. This means the cases we treat are discussed carefully, not managed in isolation. It is one of the ways we protect the quality of the work.
Depth-oriented therapy, covered by insurance. Most doctoral-level psychologists in Houston work privately. Real Talk is one of the few practices at this clinical level that is fully in-network — with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, Oscar, Tricare, and Curative. We verify your benefits before your first session and handle all claims.
A clinic, not a platform. Real Talk is a local psychology clinic serving Houston since 2018 with a stable, well-established team. Clinical work is approached with care and cases are discussed collaboratively when helpful. Our focus is on steady therapeutic work that respects what each person brings.
Same-week appointments and clinical matching. New patients are scheduled within a week. Our team responds to inquiries within minutes on weekdays and within hours on evenings and weekends, and our clinical director personally matches each patient with a psychologist based on clinical needs, language, and availability.
In-person and telehealth therapy. Our clinical team sees patients in person, in a calm office near the Galleria area in Houston, and via secure telehealth across Texas and other states. Several of our clinicians are PsyPact-authorized to work with patients beyond Texas. You can meet in person when possible and online when distance, health, or schedule make that easier.
Multilingual therapy in Houston. Our psychologists offer therapy in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Farsi. Being able to speak in the language that feels most natural to you makes the clinical work more honest, human, and precise.
A multicultural team. We provide culturally responsive care for immigrants and first-generation individuals, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community and nontraditional relationships, treating identity, culture, and belonging as central to the psychological work. Complex presentations, long-standing patterns, and cases that have not responded well to shorter-term approaches are what we are built for.
Yes. Real Talk Clinical Psychology is in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, Oscar, Tricare, and Curative. We verify your benefits before your first session.

Therapy at Real Talk Clinical Psychology can be online, in person, or a combination of both. We offer secure telehealth therapy across Texas and other states, as well as in-person sessions at our Houston office near the Galleria area. Some patients prefer to stay in one format, while others move between online and in-person sessions as their needs and schedules shift.
Yes, Real Talk Clinical Psychology offers early-morning and early-evening therapy appointments, both online and in person.
We offer doctoral-level therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma & PTSD, grief and loss, burnout, relationship patterns, identity and culture, life transitions, meaning & purpose, among other presentations.
Our approach is depth-oriented. We offer psychoanalytic therapy, logotherapy, existential therapy, Gottman-based couples therapy, besides evidence-based clinical approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT, EMDR, and other methods.
Yes. Some of our psychologists have specialized training in child and adolescent therapy, while others specialize in couples therapy. Availability for these services is limited, as we reserve them for the clinicians with specific expertise only.
Real Talk offers evaluation for autism in adults with PhD-level clinicians, covered by insurance.
We do not provide any other evaluations, assessments, letters, or documentation for school, work, disability, immigration, legal, or court purposes.
No. Real Talk therapists do not prescribe or manage medication. If psychiatric care is needed, we coordinate care with other providers and can help you connect with an appropriate clinician.
The time necessary for meaningful therapeutic changes depends on what you’re working on. Some people come to therapy for focused work around a specific concern, which may last a few months. Others benefit from longer-term therapy to address deeper, more complex, or long-standing patterns, which can take more time.
We’re honest about this from the start: meaningful change often unfolds gradually. We won’t rush the process, and we won’t keep you in therapy longer than is clinically necessary.
We don't offer free consultations. Fifteen minutes is not enough time to understand what someone is carrying or whether a particular clinician is the right fit for them. The first session is where that work begins, and we've structured the practice so that session is covered by insurance for most people. That's a more honest starting point than a call that can only scratch the surface.
Yes. Real Talk Clinical Psychology is in-network with Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Tricare, Oscar, and Curative. In many cases, we are also able to work with GEHA and UMR plans. We verify your benefits before your first session and submit all claims on your behalf. Self-pay options are also available, and we help you with your out-of-network benefits.
Your costs will depend on your insurance benefits. After you meet your deductible (if you have one), most sessions require only a standard copay, typically between $20 and $60. As a courtesy, we verify your insurance benefits before your first session. However, it is ultimately your responsibility to understand your benefits and manage any payments.
Yes. If we don't accept your insurance or you prefer to pay privately, we provide receipts (superbills) you can use for possible reimbursement for out-of-network benefits.
You choose. We offer secure telehealth therapy across Texas and in-person therapy in Houston. Many patients switch formats depending on their needs.
If you’re in immediate danger, call 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 immediately. Real Talk is not a 24/7 crisis center, though our clinicians are trained in crisis response and can connect you to additional resources for safety and support once you're in ongoing therapy with us.
Yes. Our psychologists hold doctoral degrees (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and bill as licensed psychologists under mental health benefit codes. Most insurance plans cover psychologist sessions the same way they cover other therapist sessions.
If you are looking for therapy where expertise and care matter more than trends or easy answers, welcome to
Real Talk.
