Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer?
We provide individual and couples therapy across Texas via secure telehealth, and in-person therapy in Houston. Our team works with adults, teens, children, and couples on issues like anxiety, depression, identity exploration, trauma, grief, and relationship concerns. We do not provide psychological testing or legal evaluations.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We’re in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, and Oscar. We verify your benefits before your first session and submit all claims on your behalf. Private-pay options are also available.
How much will I pay per session?
Your costs will depend on your insurance benefits. After you meet your deductible, most sessions will require only a standard copay. As a courtesy, we will verify your insurance benefits before your first session. However, it is ultimately your responsibility to understand your benefits and manage any payments.
Do you offer self-pay options?
Yes. If you prefer to pay privately, we provide receipts (superbills) you can use for possible reimbursement.
How do I get started?
Please fill out the contact form or call us. Our clinical director will personally help you in finding the best match based on your needs, availability, and preferences. You'll have the option to schedule your first session within a week. Once we confirm a date, we will send you the intake paperwork. After you complete the paperwork, we will verify your insurance benefits before your first session.
What if I want to wait for my preferred therapist, and they're full?
You will receive regular updates on new slots that become available. Also, we will offer you a first session within a week with one of our licensed psychologists. This session will help us understand your needs, outline the next steps, and determine if your chosen therapist is the best fit for you, ensuring that you don't wait in vain.
Is therapy at Real Talk online or in person?
You choose. We offer secure telehealth therapy across Texas and in-person therapy in Houston. Many clients switch formats depending on their needs.
Do you work with children or teens?
Yes. Several clinicians specialize in child and adolescent therapy, using developmentally appropriate approaches and collaborating with caregivers while respecting the child’s autonomy.
What makes Real Talk different?
We’re a team of experienced, doctorate-level therapists, offering multilingual therapy (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Farsi) and inclusive, trauma-informed care. We specialize in culturally responsive therapy and proudly support LGBTQ+ clients, nontraditional relationships, and complex emotional experiences.
What if my therapist isn’t the right fit?
It's completely normal if your first match doesn't feel right. Let us know, and we'll reassess your needs. If necessary, we will refer you to an external resource and provide full assistance with the handoff.
I’m in a crisis. What should I do?
If you’re in immediate danger, call 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Real Talk is not a 24/7 crisis center, though our clinicians are trained in crisis response and can connect you to additional resources for safety and support once you're in therapy.
