What services does Real Talk offer?

Real Talk provides in-depth psychotherapy with PhD-level psychologists, in person at our Houston office and online anywhere in Texas and across states. People begin therapy with us for many reasons: anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, burnout, relationship challenges, identity questions, and major life transitions. We treat them as starting points for serious, deep work.

What qualifications do your psychologists have?

Our psychologists hold doctoral degrees (PhD or PsyD) in clinical psychology from accredited programs and are licensed in Texas. Doctoral-level psychologists complete 5-7 years of graduate coursework, 2,000+ hours of supervised clinical training, a full-time predoctoral internship, 1-2 years of postdoctoral supervised practice, and dissertation and licensing exams. This represents 3-4 additional years of training beyond master's-level therapists, which is especially relevant for complex diagnostic presentations, treatment-resistant conditions, trauma requiring specialized protocols, and integration of research and clinical practice.

​Can I switch therapists?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Fit matters, and sometimes it changes over time. If you feel a different therapist would better match your needs, you can discuss this directly with your current therapist or contact our clinical director at adriane@realtalkpsychology.com (mailto:adriane@realtalkpsychology.com)if that feels easier. We take these concerns seriously and will help you transition thoughtfully, either to another clinician at Real Talk or to a provider outside our practice if that's the best fit.

What if my preferred therapist is full or on a waitlist?

You have three options: stay on the waitlist for your preferred therapist (though waitlists typically move slowly), schedule a consultation session with another psychologist to assess fit and discuss next steps, or allow our clinical director to match you with another clinician whose expertise aligns with your needs so you can begin therapy right away. Our goal is to ensure you receive care promptly rather than waiting without support.

What does it mean to be a PhD-level training site?

Our senior psychologists are actively involved in training and supervising emerging clinicians, and no one works in isolation. Clinical work is supported through ongoing supervision and case consultation, meaning your care benefits from collective clinical thinking rather than a single perspective.
This depth of training allows us to work with complex concerns, including trauma, cultural transitions, and relationship difficulties that go beyond communication skills alone. While practices with this level of specialization are often out of network, we accept major insurance plans.

Which insurance plans do you accept?
