About

Dr. Joann Ly is a psychologist who provides individual therapy for adults, in person in Houston and online across Texas. Her clinical background spans university counseling, community mental health, inpatient substance use treatment, and specialized settings for serious and long-standing mental illness.

Her work is grounded in a humanistic orientation, attuned to the relationships and repeating patterns that organize a person's life. Where clinically indicated, she draws on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other approaches to address symptoms more specifically. Her focus areas include anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and the questions of identity and belonging that often sit beneath them.

Much of Dr. Ly training has been with culturally and socioeconomically diverse, first-generation, and immigrant communities, and with patients of color across many levels of care. She has a sustained clinical and scholarly commitment to Asian American mental health, including intergenerational family dynamics and the pressures of acculturation. She provides therapy in English. Throughout, she remains attentive to how culture, migration, race, and social position shape a life, without reducing anyone to the categories they might be assigned to.
