About

Dr. Joann Ly holds a Psy.D. in clinical psychology and is a psychology postdoctoral fellow who provides individual therapy in English for adults, in person in Houston and online across Texas. Her clinical background spans university counseling, community mental health, inpatient substance use treatment, and specialized settings for serious and long-standing mental illness.

Her work is grounded in a psychodynamic and relational orientation, attuned to the relationships and repeating patterns that organize a person's life. Where clinically indicated, she draws on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and other approaches to address symptoms more specifically.

Dr. Ly has a sustained clinical and scholarly commitment to Asian American mental health, including intergenerational family dynamics and the pressures of acculturation. Much of her training has been with culturally diverse, first-generation communities, and with patients of color across many levels of care. Throughout, she remains attentive to how culture, race, and social position shape a life, and to the questions of justice and access that follow from them.

Her focus areas include anxiety, depression, trauma, and the questions of identity and belonging that often sit beneath them.
