Adult Autism Evaluation
PhD-Level Adult Autism Evaluation in Houston, TX | ASD Testing and Diagnosis

Many adults who seek an autism spectrum disorder evaluation have spent years in clinical care that addressed symptoms without reaching their source. A history that, in retrospect, has a pattern that was never named.
An adult autism evaluation does not change that history, but it makes it legible in a way that can change what comes next.
Our clinical team of doctoral-level licensed psychologists in Houston, Texas conducts adult autism testing and ASD evaluation in person and via telehealth across Texas.
Adult autism assessment requires more than a checklist. Autism spectrum disorder presents differently across the lifespan, and adults, particularly those who were never identified in childhood, have often developed strategies that obscure what standard evaluations are designed to detect.
Our evaluators are trained in the instruments considered gold standard for adult ASD testing, including the ADOS-2, the only direct observational measure in the battery. We assess systematically for camouflaging and masking, which are common in adults, particularly women, people of color, and those who learned early to adapt to environments not built for them.
Evaluations are conducted exclusively with adults. We do not evaluate children or adolescents.
Adult autism evaluation is rarely covered by commercial insurance plans, but we will verify all your benefits before you start.
Adult Autism and Late Diagnosis
A significant number of adults who receive an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis in adulthood were previously diagnosed with anxiety, depression, or personality disorder. The presentations overlap, and without specific training in adult autism, the underlying picture can go unrecognized for years.
Late diagnosis of autism in adults is increasingly common and clinically meaningful. For many people, receiving a formal ASD diagnosis in adulthood provides a coherent frame for what had previously been understood as personal deficits. It also opens access to accommodations, legal protections, and clinical care that were not available without documentation.
Autism in women and in people of color is particularly likely to go undiagnosed. The diagnostic criteria were developed primarily on white male children, and adults who do not fit that prototype have historically been missed. Our evaluations account for this explicitly.
PhD-Level Autism Testing in Adults
Adult ASD evaluation is a specialized clinical skill. The instruments used to assess autism spectrum disorder in adults, including the ADOS-2, require licensure and supervised practice. The diagnostic picture in adults is frequently complicated by co-occurring conditions, decades of compensatory strategies, and prior misdiagnosis.
Doctoral-level training matters most when the evaluation will be used for institutional or legal purposes, when prior testing has been inconclusive, when the presentation is complex, or when a person's history warrants more rigorous clinical attention than a brief assessment can provide.
We work with adults across a wide range of presentations: professionals who have managed by overworking, adults with prior psychiatric diagnoses that never fully accounted for their experience, and people who have recognized a pattern in themselves and want a clinical assessment of what it means.

Option 2: Autism Consultation — $1,250
In-person or telehealth. Includes self-report battery, comprehensive clinical interview, MIGDAS-2 structured interview, and a written clinical summary. Conducted by a doctoral-level licensed psychologist.

This option does not include ADOS-2 administration and is not intended for academic accommodations, disability determinations, workplace documentation, or legal use. Clients who require a formally documented and institutionally defensible ASD diagnosis should select Option 1.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can adults be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder?
Yes. There is no age limit for an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. Many adults receive an ASD diagnosis for the first time in their thirties, forties, or later, often after years of clinical contact that addressed symptoms without identifying their source.
What is the ADOS-2 and why does it matter?
The ADOS-2, or Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition, is the gold standard observational measure for autism assessment. Unlike self-report instruments, it involves direct observation of behavior during a structured clinical interaction. It is an instrument that generates data independent of what a person reports about themselves, which makes it particularly important in adults who have learned to mask or compensate for autistic traits.
Does insurance cover adult autism testing in Houston?
Adult autism evaluation is rarely covered by commercial insurance plans. Coverage for children's autism testing is more common, but adult ASD evaluation is frequently excluded or denied. We verify your specific insurance benefits before any payment is collected. Most clients pay the self-pay rate.
What is the difference between Option 1 and Option 2?
Option 1 includes direct behavioral observation using the ADOS-2 and produces a detailed written report that meets institutional and legal documentation standards. Option 2 uses self-report and structured interview only and produces a clinical summary appropriate for personal use and clinical referral purposes. Clients who need documentation for academic accommodations, disability determinations, or legal proceedings should select Option 1.
Is autism testing available in Spanish?
Option 2 is available in Spanish via telehealth with Dr. Ivette Rodriguez. Option 1 is currently available in English only.
Do you evaluate children or adolescents for autism?
No. Our autism evaluation services specialize in adults.
