Yesenia Zetino, PhD Candidate
Practicum

Yesenia is a fourth-year PhD student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Houston. She is from El Salvador and grew up in Houston. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. 
 
She has previously worked with both young adults and children, and has experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, adjustment disorders, cultural issues, life transitions, and interpersonal concerns. Yesenia has worked with clients from various cultural backgrounds and is committed to providing mental health care that is inclusive, safe, and liberating for communities of color. Her research focuses on Latinx and immigrant populations, and childhood trauma.

Yesenia has clinical experience with Cognitive-Behavioral, Play Therapy, Systems Therapy, and Cultural-Relational Approaches. However, she often takes an eclectic approach and collaborates with clients to determine what therapeutic approach is a good fit. 

Her goal as a therapist is to create a welcoming, trusting, and warm environment where clients are able to process and heal at their own pace.

Yesenia is fluent in English and Spanish.
