FAQ
Questions about therapy, scheduling, or how we work?
Doctorate-level psychologists in Houston: Our licensed psychologists hold doctoral degrees (PhD or PsyD) in clinical psychology.
A clinic, not a platform: Real Talk is a local psychology clinic in Houston with a stable, well-established team. Clinical work is approached with care and cases are discussed collaboratively when helpful. Our focus is on steady therapeutic work that respects the complexity of people's lives.
Same-week appointments with clinical matching: Most new patients are scheduled within the same week. Our clinical director personally matches each patient with a therapist based on clinical needs, language, and availability—not an algorithm.
In-network with major private insurance: We work with insurance to make high-quality, in-depth therapy accessible. Real Talk is in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, Tricare, and Curative. Our team verifies benefits before the first session and handles all claims.
In-person and telehealth therapy: Our clinical team sees patients in a calm office near the Galleria area in Houston and via secure telehealth across Texas and other states. You can meet in person when possible and online when distance, health, or schedule make that easier.
Multilingual therapy in Houston: We are a multilingual, multicultural clinic. Our clinicians offer therapy in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Farsi. Being able to speak in the language that feels most natural makes the clinical work more honest, human, and precise.

That’s it. You’re ready to start.
You'll receive a response from our clinical team within minutes on weekdays or hours on evenings and weekends, and will be offered your first session with a licensed psychologist within one week.
Therapy at Real Talk can be online, in person, or a combination of both. We offer secure telehealth therapy across Texas and other states, as well as in-person sessions at our Houston office near the Galleria area. Some patients prefer to stay in one format, while others move between online and in-person sessions as their needs and schedules shift.
Yes. Several of our psychologists provide full sessions in these languages. Therapy in your first language shapes what can be said and how you say it, and we take that seriously.
Yes, Real Talk offers early-morning and evening therapy appointments, both online and in person.
We’re a team of experienced, doctorate-level therapists, offering multilingual therapy (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Farsi). We specialize in culturally-responsive therapy and proudly support the LGBTQ+ community, nontraditional relationships, immigrants and first generation individuals, people of color, and complex emotional experiences.
We offer doctoral-level therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma & PTSD, grief and loss, burnout, relationship patterns, identity and culture, life transitions, meaning & purpose.
Our approach is depth-oriented and humanistic. We offer psychoanalytic therapy, logotherapy, existential therapy, Gottman-based couples therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and EMDR, among other evidence-based methods.
Yes. Some of our psychologists have specialized training in child and adolescent therapy, while others specialize in couples and family therapy. Availability for these services is more limited, as we reserve them for clinicians with specific expertise.
No. We offer psychotherapy only. We do not provide evaluations, assessments, letters, or documentation for school, work, disability, immigration, legal, or court purposes.
No. Real Talk therapists do not prescribe or manage medication. If psychiatric care is needed, we coordinate care with psychiatrists and can help you connect with an appropriate provider.
If you are experiencing an ongoing crisis or have immediate safety concerns, therapy is not the right first step. Please call 988 or go to the nearest emergency room. Once you are safe, we can help you think about ongoing care.
Many people have experiences with therapy that focus primarily on symptom relief or short-term coping strategies. While that can be helpful, it doesn't always address the deeper patterns or personal histories that tend to repeat over time. At Real Talk, we work with both what's happening now and what may be underneath it. This kind of work often takes longer, but it aims to create more lasting and meaningful change.
Another important difference is how we approach fit. Your initial matching is handled by our clinical director, who considers your concerns and connects you with a clinician whose expertise and experience align with what you're facing. You don't have to choose a therapist on your own or rely on instinct alone. We take fit seriously, because it matters for the work to go anywhere.
This depends on what you’re hoping to work on. Some people come to therapy for focused work around a specific concern, which may last a few months. Others benefit from longer-term therapy to address deeper or long-standing patterns, which can take more time.
We’re honest about this from the start: meaningful change often unfolds gradually. We won’t rush the process, and we won’t keep you in therapy longer than is clinically necessary.
We don't. Fifteen minutes is not enough time to understand what someone is carrying or whether a particular clinician is the right fit for them. The first session is where that work begins, and we've structured the practice so that session is covered by insurance for most people. That's a more honest starting point than a call that can only scratch the surface.
We provide individual therapy for adults across Texas via secure telehealth and in-person therapy in Houston. We do not provide psychological testing or legal evaluations.
Please fill out the contact form or call us. Our clinical director will help you find the best match based on your needs, availability, and preferences. You'll have the option to schedule your first session within a week. Once we confirm a date, we will send you the intake paperwork and, right after you complete it, we will verify your insurance benefits.
Yes. We’re in-network with Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Tricare, Oscar, and Curative. In many cases, we are also able to work with GEHA and UMR plans. We verify your benefits before your first session and submit all claims on your behalf. Self-pay options are also available, and we help you with your out-of-network benefits.
Your costs will depend on your insurance benefits. After you meet your deductible (if you have one), most sessions require only a standard copay, typically between $20 and $60. As a courtesy, we verify your insurance benefits before your first session. However, it is ultimately your responsibility to understand your benefits and manage any payments.
Yes. If we don't accept your insurance or prefer to pay privately, we provide receipts (superbills) you can use for possible reimbursement for out-of-network benefits.
You choose. We offer secure telehealth therapy across Texas and in-person therapy in Houston. Many patients switch formats depending on their needs.
If you’re in immediate danger, call 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Real Talk is not a 24/7 crisis center, though our clinicians are trained in crisis response and can connect you to additional resources for safety and support once you're in ongoing therapy with us.
Yes. Our psychologists hold doctoral degrees (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and bill as licensed psychologists under mental health benefit codes. Most insurance plans cover licensed psychologist sessions the same way they cover therapist sessions.
If you are looking for therapy where expertise and care matter more than trends or easy answers, welcome to
Real Talk.
